DIY Fall Candle Holders (with Bonus DIY)

Hey, everyone! I'm finally back with a lovely DIY. Sorry it took so long to get this posted! Let's jump right into it, shall we? Also, this project involves sharp objects. Kids, please ask someone you trust for help with this project. And since fake leaves are flammable, I recommend using flameless candles when you're using these holders and the 'wreaths'. I don't want anyone's home burning down. Step 1: Grab Those Supplies! For this DIY, h...

Cockroach Donuts (Boston Cream)

Give your guests the creeps with these donuts disguised as cockroaches! But they won't be creeped out for long once guests dig their teeth into the mouthwatering chocolate glaze, soft and chewy caramel shell, and into the deliciously oozing vanilla bean Boston cream. And if you're expecting cockroaches would have some crunch, these donuts do not disappoint -- the antennae and legs are all made from thin, crispy fried strips of donut dough. ...

IoT Air Freshner (with NodeMCU, Arduino, IFTTT and Adafruit.io)

It's comforting to have a fragrant spring floral house, as if you were in the middle of a lavender garden instead of the concrete jungle where you probably live in. For this, many of the different companies have created air lovers with a multitude of aromas. There are lot of Air Freshners in the market: from the old manual sprays, to timer triggered ones. The later ones, although automatic, are quite dumb: they will keep spraying even if yo...

How to Photograph a Lit Jack-o-lantern

Taking a decent photo of a lit jack-o-lantern can be difficult, but you needn’t have a fancy camera. Step 1: Have Good Light Inside Your Pumpkin. Make sure you have enough light inside your pumpkin. I prefer to use a pumpkin light (found at a dollar store) and a small flash light, instead of a candle. Step 2: Dark Room Have a room that can get very dark. Sit your pumpkin on something; a stand, a table, a stool… Step 3: Tripod It’s best to u...

Pirates of the Caribbean - Jack Sparrow's Compass

The compass has 2 different sized circles that are carved out, one on the bottom of the compass and one on the lid. The one on the lid is also a little smaller. Carving out the circles was not straight-forward as I didn't have the right wood cutting equipment. I ended up using an electrical powered dremmel to carve out each circle. Feel free to use another method to make these cuts if you have access to better equipment. I decided the depth...

How to Carve: Wonder Woman

Fine detail carving: Use the sharp-tipped X-acto blades for fine details: The sharp tipped X-acto blades are used to carve ALL details of the pumpkin. This blade allows for the most amount of control to achieve the fine details needed. The blade is used to cut into the desired depth around the previously drawn lines. Once the detail is cut, the blade is then turned on its side and used to pop the previously cut piece out of pumpkin. Planing...

Building a Monster Tarot 690s Hexacopter!

Want some buttery smooth aerial drone footage? If you just want some smooth awesome drone footage, like I did, you're going to need a drone capable of lifting lots of weight. I wanted a "budget" filming multirotor so I went as "cheap" as possible (cheap being around $700). However I did get stuck between a budget frame, that was also somewhat high quality. After hours and hours of researching drone frames, I decided on building a Tarot 690s...

Wonder Woman Dog Costume

"At last, in a world torn apart by the hatreds and wars of men, appears a woman to whom the problems and fears of men are mere child’s play . . . she is known only as WONDER WOMAN." These quoted words are read in the All Stars Comic #8 issue in December 1941 comic as her introduction. As one would expect from a character that is more than 70 years old, the history and continuing story of Wonder Woman are truly fascinating. I love classics a...

Hack Your Halloween With Phidgets

Where you place the sonar sensor will depend on your application. This project will be installed in a outdoor haunted house where visibility will be low, so having the sonar sensor sit directly on top won't be a problem. Alternatively, you could mount the sonar above a doorway, or pointing up from the ground if you wanted to hide it. We used some glue to mount the sonar sensor. Double-sided tape would also work great! Original link

Fur-lined Leather Wristband

Leatherworkers, like carpenters, should live by the adage "measure twice, cut once". To that end, it is always a good idea to sketch out a paper pattern before cutting into your leather. Take your wrist measurement, and add ~2". This is the length you will cut the wide inner strap. In heavy paper, cut out a strip 2" wide and to the length computed above. For the inner strap, cut out a strip 3/4" wide x 16-17" long. Finally, mark holes for r...
